Bro. Simon Saliba, Youth Pastor in Lebanon, was with us in service this last weekend, and preached a wonderful message to the church about preparing for revival, using Hosea 10:12 as his text: ”Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you. He shared his burden to see the lost saved, along with four key points to prepare ourselves and our church for revival:
1) Remove the stumps. You can clear off land by cutting down trees in preparation for a new structure, but what do you have left over? The stumps, along with the roots, some deeply seated in the ground. You must not simply cut down the trees of worldliness and sin, you must remove the stumps, pulling them out by the roots!
2) Deal with the hardness of the ground. There are times when the ground is very hard and must be tilled…Bro. Saliba interpreted “hardness” two ways. First, unbelief. We must believe that God is going to bring revival! We must believe that our family, our neighbors, our community, will be saved! God is interested in this! We believe, but at times, need God to help us with our unbelief. Second, “hardness” can be interpreted as our hurts. No matter where the hurts come from, we must lay them on the altar, give them to God!
3) Get rid of the big rocks. Usually, big rocks are not there to begin with, they are dumped. What are you allowing to be “dumped” in your life? What has the enemy tried to “dump” on you to keep you from fulfilling God’s will in your life? You must get rid of these things! ”Lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us…” (Hebrews 12:1)
4) Thorns must be gathered and burned. If the way is to be cleared for revival, the thorns must be done away with. Jesus taught about the Word falling on thorny ground, and the enemy choking out the life of it…we cannot afford to let the Word fall on thorny ground…we must receive it with joy and gladness, and it will not return void! God will see to it that revival comes to a church that has prepared the ground!
Church, I urge you, along with Bro. Saliba, to “break up your fallow ground.” Be receptive to the Word of God. Be receptive to the Spirit of God. Be receptive to the man of God. We are preparing for revival!!!
